It*s Material: Artist in Residence

It*s Material is an artists' collective whose contemporary jewellery practices span minimalist form, feminist ethics, and the environment.

In their hands, definitions of jewellery are expanded by using it to centre the body as the site, archive and interface for ritual, resistance and connection between artist, wearer and viewer. They transform assumptions about jewellery by using unstable forms, unexpected materials and embodied narratives. It*s Material treat jewellery as artefact, prototype and relic, inviting the viewer to touch the works and engage with them to uncover the meaning embedded within. Each piece carries memory and care and proposes new modes of kinship, resilience and radical imagination in response to ecological and cultural uncertainty.

Collectively, It*s Material has extensive experience in their respective arts practices; has a rich history of participation in group and solo exhibitions and residencies; and count prize winners and finalists amongst them.

It*s Material includes artists Jessica Andersen, Anna Krispel, Gabi Harris, Hannaneh Qiumarsi, Helle Jorgensen, Katherine Bracco and Susan Richardson.
