Greek Cafes in Rosewood

About

It is a truth universally acknowledged that every town in eastern Australia had a Greek cafe. This is not strictly true. How many Greek cafes traded in Rosewood? What kind of food and drink did locals enjoy within their walls? And what of the migrants who came to Rosewood seeking a better life than was possible in their Greek homelands?

Dr Toni Risson is a storyteller and a cultural historian who has penned everything from children’s picture books to a doctorate on the magic of lollies. An expert of the Greek café phenomenon, Toni curated Meet Me at the Paragon for the State Library of Queensland (2019-2020), and her book Brisbane’s Greek Cafes: A Million Malted Milks was a finalist in the 2019 Queensland Literary Awards.

This event is part of the Australian Heritage Festival. This year's theme, Change, invites all Australians to uncover the ways history continues to shape us - and how we are shaping history in return.
