Discover the beauty of one of the world's oldest painting media with artist Dr Bill Platz!

Learn how to create from scratch one of the oldest, most beautiful and permanent paints — egg tempera — with Dr Bill Platz.

Using simple ingredients including eggs, water, and natural pigments, you will make your own drawing materials and learn techniques for using them. You will then have the opportunity to experiment with this medium while drawing from a posing, clothed model.

Used by ancient and contemporary artists alike, egg tempera is often known for its use in the Byzantine and Medieval tradition of icon painting. This masterclass is inspired by Ipswich Art Gallery's upcoming artist retrospective Leonard Brown — Painting the Celestial. This exhibition displays Leonard Brown's contributions as both a highly regarded painter of the sublime and as an accomplished icon painter.

Skill level: This workshop is suitable for beginners.

What to wear: Please wear closed-in shoes and workshop-friendly clothing. BYO apron should you require it.
