This exhibition displays the ‘origin story’ of dry-media screenprinting, practiced by local artist Alan Tulloch.
Dry – the New Wet showcases Alan Tulloch’s tactical use of ephemerality in his art where he substitutes screenprinting ink with dry media such as powdered coal, limestone, sand, soil, salt, turmeric and instant coffee. Images printed with dry media are deliberately unstable and often needing protection; being left to blow away or being manipulated to explore themes such as loss, endangerment, angst, mortality or the gentleness of being. This exhibition brings home 10 years of work created in Townsville, Noosa, Bimblebox (Central Queensland), Sydney, Bilpin (NSW), Port Adelaide, Enfield and, the artist's current residence, Ipswich. This work will be seen in videoed print performances, static print installations, photo documentation, live print performances and through Tulloch’s interactive (relational) Art Snack Café where he gives free prints to exhibition visitors.
The exhibition will feature a series of daily activations including Sharing Circles, Artist Talks, Anyone-Can-Screenprint Events, Floor-Walk Q&As and Art Snack Café Exchanges.
